Training for preschool and childcare staff
Staff can complete the online portion of the course individually, then attend an in-person skills session. For preschool owners and childcare directors, we recommend the American Heart Association Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED blended learning (hybrid) option: staff complete the online course at their own pace, then attend a hands-on skills session with Last Minute Training.
Both parts are required for certification. Complete the online course and the in-person skills session to receive an official AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED eCard, valid for two years.

- Flexible online learning. Staff can complete the online portion outside a group class or at your facility, including in their classrooms when staffing and supervision allow.
- Less disruption to classroom coverage. Schedule staff for shorter skills sessions instead of taking the entire teaching team out of classrooms for a full course or arranging weekend training.
- Fewer payroll hours dedicated to a scheduled CPR class. The online format reduces time spent together in instructor-led classroom training and can simplify coverage planning.
- AHA course content with local emergency response guidance. Staff receive the same core lifesaving information, with hands-on practice and additional local emergency response expectations covered during the skills session.
Meets North Dakota childcare training requirements
The AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED hybrid course, completed with an in-person skills session, satisfies the North Dakota Health and Human Services pediatric first aid and infant and pediatric CPR/AED training requirements for early childhood educators.
North Dakota HHS requires staff who care for or teach children to complete certification within 90 days of employment and before they have unsupervised access to children. The required certifications cover:
- Infant and pediatric CPR and AED use through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or another program approved by Early Childhood Licensing.
- Pediatric first aid through a program approved by Early Childhood Licensing.
Online pediatric CPR/AED training is accepted only when trainees also complete a hands-on, in-person skills test with a certified instructor. This certification does not count toward annual training hours.
Registration and course completion
- Reserve your skills session. Use RosterDock to choose an available Last Minute Training blended learning session.
- Purchase and complete the online course. Choose Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Online from the American Heart Association and finish it before your skills session.
- Attend your in-person skills session. Email your online course completion certificate to [email protected] before attending, and bring a copy to your session. Practice and demonstrate pediatric first aid, infant and child CPR, and AED skills with a certified instructor. Your eCard is issued upon successful completion.
The AHA online course and Last Minute Training skills session are purchased separately. Online coursework alone does not provide the completed certification.

What your staff will learn
The course covers infant and child CPR, AED use, choking response, and pediatric first aid for common injuries and medical emergencies. Experienced emergency response instructors lead the hands-on session and help staff connect these skills to emergencies in a childcare setting.
